Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray began his club’s roster reshaping, announcing that goaltender Jonas Hiller, along with forwards Saku Koivu and Daniel Winnik will not be offered contracts.<\/p>\n
“I spoke to Saku, Jonas and Dan all last week. I told them that we would not be offering them contracts moving forward,” Murray stated at a conference call. “Jonas was a No. 1 goalie here for five years, and did a great job for us. He was good about it. He was professional. Saku — what can you say? He’s had a great career, but I don’t know what he?s going to do moving forward. We decided we’re going to move on and go in a different direction.”<\/p>\n
Hiller endured an injury-plagued rollercoaster season in 2013-14, going 29-13-7 with a 2.48 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and five shutouts in 50 appearances. He participated in just six of Anaheim’s 13 playoff games, going 2-2 with a 2.19 GAA.<\/p>\n
However, with backups Frederik Andersen and John Gibson doing a good enough job in his absence to gain playoff starts, the 32-year-old Swiss backstop will have to ply his trade elsewhere.<\/p>\n
He’ll leave Orange County after seven seasons with a 162-110-32 record, 2.51 GAA and 21 whitewashes in 326 regular-season appearances, adding a 12-12 postseason mark.<\/p>\n
Koivu, 39, wrapped up what might be the last of his 18-year NHL career and final of five with Anaheim, by potting 11 goals and 29 points over 65 games. Since breaking into the league with Montreal for the 1995-96 campaign, the native of Finland has accumulated 255 goals and 832 points over 1,124 contests.<\/p>\n
Winnik tallied six goals and 24 assists in 76 games during his second full season with the Ducks. A journeyman heading into his eighth pro campaign, he has picked up 49 goals and 101 assists in 490 games for the Coyotes, Avs, Sharks and Ducks.<\/p>\n
