{"id":19470,"date":"2014-06-03T17:35:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-03T17:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/cubs-activate-rondon-among-slew-of-roster-moves\/"},"modified":"2014-06-03T17:35:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-03T17:35:00","slug":"cubs-activate-rondon-among-slew-of-roster-moves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/cubs-activate-rondon-among-slew-of-roster-moves\/","title":{"rendered":"Cubs activate Rondon among slew of roster moves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; The Chicago Cubs activated pitcher Hector Rondon from the paternity list and selected the contract of catcher Eli Whiteside from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Both Rondon and Whiteside will be available for the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Tuesday&#8217;s opener of a three-game series against the New York Mets.<\/p>\n<p>In 22 relief appearances for the Cubs this season, Rondon is 0-1 with six saves and a 1.59 earned run average.<\/p>\n<p>Whiteside, 34, will join the Cubs for the first time this season. He is a career .215 hitter with 10 home runs and 43 RBI in 208 major league games, with all but nine coming with the San Francisco Giants.<\/p>\n<p>He will be taking the place of catcher Welington Castillo, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left rib cage inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>Castillo is hitting .242 with five home runs and 13 RBI this season.<\/p>\n<p>To make room for Whiteside on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated pitcher Jose Veras for assignment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; The Chicago Cubs activated pitcher Hector Rondon from the paternity list and selected the contract of catcher Eli Whiteside from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.
