{"id":18772,"date":"2014-05-15T13:47:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T13:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/sutherland-given-exemption-to-u-s-senior-open\/"},"modified":"2014-05-15T18:40:20","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T18:40:20","slug":"sutherland-given-exemption-to-u-s-senior-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/sutherland-given-exemption-to-u-s-senior-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Sutherland given exemption to U.S. Senior Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Far Hills, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; The United States Golf Association announced on Thursday that Kevin Sutherland has been given a special exemption into the U.S. Senior Open Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Sutherland, whose lone PGA Tour win was at the 2002 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, will turn 50 a week before the championship kicks off July 10 at Oak Tree National, in Edmond, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am honored and excited that the USGA has extended me an exemption to play in this year&#8217;s U.S. Senior Open,&#8221; said Sutherland. &#8220;I am proud of what I have accomplished on the PGA Tour and this is an acknowledgement of how I have played.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sutherland has played in 12 USGA events in his career, including nine U.S. Opens.
