New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was given a four-game suspension by the NFL Monday for a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.<\/p>\n
Bailey, a third-round pick in last year’s draft who is expected to hold down an increased role this season, acknowledged the infraction via Twitter but denied he used any performance-enhancing drugs.<\/p>\n
“I want to be clear that I’ve never taken any performance enhancing products,” Bailey tweeted. “I acknowledge that a violation of league policy occurred and that I am responsible for that violation.<\/p>\n
“I sincerely apologize to my Coach [Jeff] Fisher, [general manager] Les Snead, [Rams owner] Stan Kroenke, my teammates and our great fans for my mistake.”<\/p>\n
Bailey will be forced to sit out the Rams’ first four contests of 2014, running through the club’s Week 5 matchup against Philadelphia on Oct. 5. He is eligible to participate in the preseason.<\/p>\n
After recording just one catch over the first 10 games of his rookie season, Bailey had 16 totaling 214 yards in St. Louis’ last six outings of 2013. Bailey added a 27-yard touchdown run in a Week 16 win over Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
