{"id":17612,"date":"2014-04-19T12:26:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-19T12:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/nats-activate-of-span-from-7-day-dl\/"},"modified":"2014-04-19T12:26:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-19T12:26:00","slug":"nats-activate-of-span-from-7-day-dl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/nats-activate-of-span-from-7-day-dl\/","title":{"rendered":"Nats activate OF Span from 7-day DL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; The Washington Nationals activated outfielder Denard Span from the seven-day disabled list Saturday prior to the team&#8217;s home game against the St. Louis Cardinals.<\/p>\n<p>Span sustained a concussion during an April 11 contest against Atlanta when he collided with Braves second baseman Dan Uggla while rounding first base in the eighth inning.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old outfielder stayed in the game and played the remainder of the 10-inning contest before being placed on the short-term DL the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Over 10 games this season entering Saturday, Span batted .222 with three doubles, one triple and four runs batted in.<\/p>\n<p>To make room on the roster, Washington optioned outfielder Steven Souza Jr. to Triple-A Syracuse.<\/p>\n<p>Souza was recalled from Syracuse after the injury to Span and made his major league debut on April 13.
