It could have been worse, but he ran off three straight birdie chances from the 13th.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did what I thought I needed to do except I didn&#8217;t make any putts,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old started with a bogey at one, then picked up a birdie at the fourth. Simpson faltered to a double bogey at five and he dropped another stroke at the seventh.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson tripped to another bogey at the 12th, but he fought back with three consecutive birdies from the 13th to get to 1-over for his round.
