{"id":15048,"date":"2014-02-24T20:48:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T20:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/mayweather-will-fight-maidana-on-may-3\/"},"modified":"2014-02-24T20:48:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-24T20:48:00","slug":"mayweather-will-fight-maidana-on-may-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/mayweather-will-fight-maidana-on-may-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayweather will fight Maidana on May 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced Monday that he will next fight fellow welterweight titleholder Marcos Maidana on May 3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will be fighting Marcos Maidana May 3rd on Pay-per-view Showtime\/CBS,&#8221; Mayweather said on his Twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>The fight will be the third of the 30-month, six-fight deal worth $200 million-plus that Mayweather signed with Showtime and parent network CBS last February.<\/p>\n<p>In his last fight, Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) beat Saul &#8220;Canelo&#8221; Alvarez on Sept. 14, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) will be making the first defense of his belt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Marcos Maidana&#8217;s last performance immediately brought him to my attention,&#8221; Mayweather said in a statement. &#8220;He is an extremely skilled fighter who brings knockout danger to the ring.
