{"id":13292,"date":"2014-01-24T18:51:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-24T18:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/sherman-fined-for-taunting-in-title-game\/"},"modified":"2014-01-28T16:50:08","modified_gmt":"2014-01-28T16:50:08","slug":"sherman-fined-for-taunting-in-title-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stub.com\/hq\/news\/sherman-fined-for-taunting-in-title-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Sherman fined for taunting in title game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; Richard Sherman&#8217;s post-NFC title game rant went viral, but it&#8217;s something the Seattle Seahawks cornerback did during the game that&#8217;s costing him some money.<\/p>\n<p>Sherman was fined $7,875 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct\/taunting, a league spokesman confirmed Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Pro Bowl corner was given a 10-yard taunting penalty near the end of the game for making a choking gesture toward the San Francisco sideline, which he said was directed at 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.<\/p>\n<p>Sherman leapt to tip Kaepernick&#8217;s pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the end zone and it was intercepted by teammate Malcolm Smith, halting a 49ers drive in the final minute and sealing Seattle&#8217;s second Super Bowl trip.<\/p>\n<p>Replays showed Sherman patting Crabtree on the butt and attempting to shake his hand, then making the choking gesture.<\/p>\n<p>Sherman has apologized for remarks he made in a boisterous postgame interview with Fox sideline reporter Erin Andrews in which he screamed that he was the best corner in the game and disparaged Crabtree&#8217;s talent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(SportsNetwork.com) &#8211; Richard Sherman&#8217;s post-NFC title game rant went viral, but it&#8217;s something the Seattle Seahawks cornerback did during the game that&#8217;s costing him some money.
