Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – New Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith has quickly begun to fill out his staff, naming former California head coach Jeff Tedford as the club’s offensive coordinator.

Tedford spent 11 seasons at Cal and left as the winningest coach in school history. He posted a record of 82-57 from 2002-11, earning eight bowl bids.

“We are very fortunate to have Jeff as our offensive coordinator,” Smith told the team’s website. “I have a great deal of respect for the job Jeff did at Cal for more than a decade and I believe he will be a great fit for what we are attempting to do in Tampa.”

Tedford was named Cal’s head coach in December 2001 and guided the Bears to a 7-5 record one year after the team finished 1-10. He earned Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors twice in his first three seasons and led the Bears to 10 wins in both 2004 and 2006.

California went just 23-27 over Tedford’s final four seasons, including 3-9 in his last year at the helm.

Tedford has never coached in the NFL, but he helped produce a stable of pro talent at California. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson all played for the Bears under Tedford.

“Jeff has a successful and proven track record as a teacher and developer of young talent and I know our players, and the organization as a whole, will benefit from his experience,” Smith added.

Tedford was a collegiate assistant at Oregon and Fresno State, serving as offensive coordinator at both schools, with a three-year CFL assistant stint in between.
