Ron White History

Ron "Tater Salad" White was born in 1956 in the town of Fritch, Texas, and had a fairly uneventful childhood. He received his nickname while serving in the U.S. Navy from his shipmates due to his love of potato salad. He had always wanted to be a comedian and pursued his dream after being discharged from the Navy. He held a variety of jobs from selling windows to riding broncos to help make ends meet while he travelled from gig to gig in a beat up Nissan pickup truck.

After years of playing comedy clubs around the country, his big break came in the form of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour . He was able to perform with Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy for three years, which sold out in 90 cities around the country and grossed over $15 million during its run. While the rest of the comedians from the tour went on to perform on television in their own half hour show, he declined to join them. He did, however, make a few guest appearances on the show along with appearing on the same celebrity roasts with the Blue Collar comedians.

His comedy reflects some of his real life experiences with law enforcement and drug or alcohol use. One incident happened in 2008 in Vero Beach, Florida where the police arrived at the airport to search his private plane. They informed him that they had received a tip there were drugs on board. He was in fact found to be in possession of 7/8ths of a gram of marijuana but also had in his possession a medical marijuana license from the state of California.

He has released four comedy albums that have all met with great success along with the accompanying tours. Along with touring and performing, he devoted time to charitable work with raising money for the Hurricane Katrina victims and wounded soldiers. In 2009, he received the "Patriot Award" from the Armed Forces Foundation for his efforts along with having April 29 named "Ron White Day" by the Texas legislature.
