Nickelback History

Nickelback was formed in 1995 by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Brad Kroeger, who was the original drummer before being replaced by Mitch Guidon in 1997. Mitch left after just one year with the band and was replaced by Ryan Vikedal. In 1996 they released their first album called Hescher which brought them to the attention of Roadrunner Records executive Ron Burman. Burman then travelled to see them play to a packed venue in Vancouver, Canada, and was suitably impressed not only with their music but also how they managed their own careers off stage.

After three months, the band was signed to a record deal with Roadrunner after it was shown that on their own they had produced and sold over 10,000 copies of their first EP and album. In 2000, the band released their first album under the EMI/Roadrunner label called The State , which included four of their top ten hits including "Breathe" and "Leader of Men." The band then toured with Creed, SevenDust, and 3 Doors Down to promote their new album and went on to win the Juno award in 2001. The same year saw them with the release of Silver Side Up which contained one of their biggest hits, "How You Remind Me."

In 2003, they released The Long Road, which included the hit song "Figured You Out", topping out at number one for 13 weeks in a row and the album itself sold over 5 million copies. Their fifth album, All the Right Reasons, was released in 2005 and to date this album has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. The same year saw yet another change in drummers as Ryan Vikedal left the band and was replaced by Daniel Adair, the former drummer from 3 Doors Down. In 2005, Chad Kroeger also began his own record label, 604 Records, where he is the executive producer.

Nickelback has gotten criticism from many different sources regarding some of their lyrics. The lyrics in some of their songs bring some of the more conservative reviews to their feet in protest but the fans absolutely love their music. The band also has the support of many others in the industry to keep doing what they are doing, such as Chris Martin of Coldplay and Timbaland.
