Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born in 1981 in Houston, Texas, and grew up with a love for dance and music. At a very young age she began dazzling those around her with her singing talents. She began performing in public with a small group called Girl's Tyme at the age of eight and received the opportunity to record an album with the group. They were to be featured on Star Search but lost the competition due to the song they chose to perform.

In 1993, the group changed its name to "Destiny's Child" and performed under that name until they were signed in 1997 by Columbia Records. Destiny's Child had its own issues, as two of the members sued the record company for breach of contract along with another member simply giving up on the group. During this time, Beyonce went into a deep depression due to the group splitting and other contributing factors. In 2001, the group produced their final album that year, 8 Days of Christmas and announced that they would go on hiatus to pursue solo careers.

Her solo career began in 2002 with the release of "Work It Out," a single that was used in the movie Austin Powers in Goldmember, in which she also had a role. She continued her acting career with a role in The Fighting Temptations starring opposite of Cuba Gooding, Jr. She released Dangerously in Love in 2003 and it remains her bestselling album to date with album sales of over 4 million in the U.S. and over eleven million worldwide. The year 2004 also saw her tie a record at the Grammys with winning five awards that included the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Dangerously in Love 2," Best R&B Song for "Crazy in Love" and an additional two awards with Luther Vandross.

At the end of 2004, she reunited with Destiny's Child and recorded their final album together, Destiny Fulfilled . This caused her to put her own projects on hold until the album was completed along with other opportunities surfacing. She was cast in the film Dreamgirls and played alongside Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson. This role landed her two Golden Globe awards that year long with recording the title song of the movie, "Listen."

"Sasha Fierce" is Beyonce's alter ego and one she claims to be nothing like in real life. She describes Sasha as the one who is out going and provocative where she is quiet and reserved in private. She spends much of her free time working with and contributing to many charitable organizations, such as the Survivor Foundation, Hope for Haiti and the Brooklyn Phoenix House.
